christmas in july

Thank you so much for all the gimp well wishes!!! The shoulder is healing, albeit a tad slower than I'd like, but the boys and I have been able to get out for a wee show here or there. I've also been busy laying down the vocal tracks for the new disc and have managed to work out a couple of new favorite tunes, "capo'd in eleven" and "rock your world". Both will appear on the upcoming cd. We've also scheduled some new show dates and are working on adding some more. I sure hope to see ya'll real soon.

fiery red heds and dwarves crawling out of cars

Thank you all for coming out to Brian's benefit show. It was a perfect backdrop to a beautiful evening in Encinitas. We succeeded in raising over $10,000 in Brian's loving memory. A special thanks to "E" and "Shades" for being a part of it.

Gimp Update: pins are out, stitches are healing ... and some physical therapy will get me home. Missing ya'll..., missing the guitar ... sigh.

Everything here is "capo'd in eleven"...

Postponement of Shows Due to the Gimp Factor

Hey Kidz - I’ve had to postpone a couple of shows due to a wee riding injury in beautiful Park City, Utah. The injury and post-surgery recovery left me not able to pick up the guitar and deliver any performance I could be happy with thus I’m looking to reschedule cancelled shows for later in the year.

Fear not, as things will be back to normal sooner versus later and Doctor McDreamy says the pins should be out by end of month and it will be late May when I start feeling normal. Whatever that is. LoL!

I’m really looking forward to a rockin’ second half of the year though as we kick off the summer show schedule in my beloved Tucson, and I am working on filling up the calendar for those hot summer months.

Plans to release my second full length Girl For You are still in the works and we’re looking to drop the disc sometime before Christmas, with any Grace of God.

A big thank you to my buddies in Park City for being there post-accident, Tim Wray, Doctor Dave and Chicago Bill. Big hugs to all my friends and family for their love, support and help .... Uncle Paul, Matt, Nanny K ... the first couple of weeks would have been truly rough without ya’ll. Thank you ALL for the Get Well messages!

Until we see each other again, take care, God Bless ...

Lots of Love Always,

Julie

p.s. - Latest and Greatest Movie "Once" ... check it out. It makes me long for Ireland!

Happy Birthday Jonah!!! :-)

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate my birthday at the Tiki last week. Good times, good times...

Tony and I will be back at E Street in Encinitas on April 11 for an all-ages show and some of the best coffee in town. We hope to see ya'll then. ~ J

"Hello ... it's me. You there?

OMG!!! Where have I been? Can you ever forgive me for the fog I’ve been in? Maybe it was Tucson, or New York … more than likely beautiful Ireland. So it’s true … we’re back … home for the holidays! But can you ever really go home? Madly preparing the 2007 tour schedule so we can get out and see you pretty kids. Looking forward to the Steve Poltz show we’re opening at LeStats on Dec 22. Please do come out and share in the Holiday spirit. Hope to see you.

"barely breaking"

Oh my gosh ya’ll I am so sorry for the lag factor on the latest and greatest Julie Mack updates. We’ve been so busy and in the last month have had the pleasure of going to Tucson and back (twice), playing in front of Shamu and performing in the Big Apple last weekend. It has been an absolutely amazing month of great music, great cities and great friends. Thank you, thank you for all the road support we’ve been receiving. T and I can’t thank you enough for coughing up your pads to a couple of weary musicians. It’s been marvelous spending time with all of our close friends on the road as well as meeting so many wonderful new souls. There have been some absolutely fabulous conversations, meals and cocktails shared!

Tony, Merch Girl Heather and I are now getting ready for the trip to Dublin and Belfast next week. We’ll be traveling and performing with our good friend and amazing talent Ludwig. If you’re in Dublin next week you can tune in and catch us Live on Thursday afternoon on Dublin FM South. Please also check out the calendar for show dates and information.

We look forward to seeing you cats in Ireland.

Cheers!

Lyrics to a new song we're introducing in Santa Barbara ... "Girl For You" ...

played the games
made the moves
in spite of everything I do
I’m not the girl for you

you and I ain’t going nowhere
I’m getting tired of the words I’m hearing
little voice inside my head
is driven crazy with over thinking
going insane
babe you’ve changed me
for good…

played the games
made the moves
in spite of everything I do
I’m not the girl for you

going around in circles
getting dizzy with all the spinning
makes me sad to think about
the days that I’ve been wasting
all this time
putting things aside
for you…

played the games
made the moves
in spite of everything I do
I’m not the girl for you

5/1/06

STAR

There you are, sitting in my car
There you are, my little angel my little star

You can be my ride, going to take the road
less traveled on

You can take me higher than a kite
above the heavens

You just love going through my stuff
I guess all those toys, well they didn't amount to much

You can be my ride, going to take the road
less traveled on

You can take me higher than a kite
above the heavens

Didn't know I could love you
Didn't know I could care
Couldn't believe that you're love
could take me somewhere cool...

You can be my ride, going to take the road
less traveled on

You can take me higher than a kite
above the heavens

My little angel, my little star

happy new years!

i've walked the streets of new orleans
dusty roads of abilene
seen things you can't imagine

kissed a many dirty face
been to far off distant places
to find my way home again

it's new years day i forgot
gotta take the time
to make those calls
be thankful for the life i've lived

good times and bad
happy days and sad

the rain outside will wash me clean
take away the dirt and sins
give me a new beginning

it's a new year, a brand new day
swear this time i'll change my ways
and hit the ground next time running

it's new years day i forgot
gotta take the time
to make those calls
be thankful for the life i've lived

good times and bad
happy days and sad

happy holidays!

12/11/05
You're not the only one...

It's amazing... the calls I get at 4AM. I'm considering renaming "3AM", ...move it up an hour. Some of the calls, voices are sweet ... relieving, others ... well ... a poor decision. Is that what love was for? Nonetheless they're all friends and I love you all and hope to see you soon ... at a show? We've two left this year and then this gal and SH are buckling down to record. We've a full length my friends, "coming around" the corner.

So for God sake, get some sleep and please don't be a lost cause.
xx Jules

The Greek philosopher Aristotle said that friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone for coming out to the Casbah last Saturday and a special big hug and thanks "my boys" in the band and to Mr. Steverino Poltz for letting us hoodlums open up. It was great to meet all the new faces and awesome to see the familiar. I felt like a “little fish” in the presence of Doug Pettibone, Berkley Hart and Tom Freund having grown to love and respect all that talent in the room. It was a shining moment in what was otherwise a pretty hellacious couple of weeks. I’ve really come to know who my “friends” are and I love you all dearly. Have a great holiday season, stay healthy and I’ll see you out at a show soon. xxx … Jules

a new tune... (and you thought I was rambling)... ;-)

I'm working on a slow brew
I'm thinking about a me and you
taking the time
to read between the lines

Nothing but a slow brew
thinkin' about a me and you
taking a guess
on all these baby steps

and it don't feel the same this time
I don't care if you don't mind
let things be the way they'll be
tea for you coffee for me

Looking for a slow brew
who would have knew
so happy that I
didn't believe all the lies

Hoping for a slow brew
not a fast moving fool
what will it be
the fool or a brew this time

and it don't feel the same this time
I don't care if you don't mind
let things be the way they'll be
tea for you coffee for me.

Well… one sick kid, a new job and a jacked up PA system later...

and we pulled it off! Kinda... Okay sorry for the technical problems Wed night. We’ll make it up to you, although it was fun belting and playing as loud as we could. My voice still hasn’t found its way completely home.

YO, YO, check it out … we’z, the Poltz kid and Tom Freund will be performing Saturday, Thanksgiving weekend. If you are in town, please do not miss this show at the Casbah as it is going to be some serious good times and good tunes.

Peace be with you my friends (and foes)… lots of loving… j-

Love...soft as an evening chair...

I think we were in Berkeley? It all happened so fast that it feels like a dream. What a nice dream though... meeting ya lads from LUCA was a treat as sweet as everyone at the Starry Plough. I suspect we'll be seeing ya'll again soon.

Meanwhile it's back to familiar stomping grounds with a show at the Calypso Wed Oct. 19 @ 7 PM. Our good friend Sara Petite will be there performing a few songs during the break. Please call the restaurant for reservations and a seat by the band.

Jules

I hate when I eat my twinkie before my burrito.

Thank you so much my friends for having dinner with us last night. It means a lot to me. Thank you for the beautiful flowers and the handwritten notes. It was fun to Calypso with you...
We'll do it again soon.

We're looking forward to hitting the road, making some new friends in Berkeley and are stoked to be appearing at the Starry Plough Pub. Thank you Misty and Luca for the opportunity.
See you in October!

8/29/05

There's a whole lotta 40's going down tonight...

Wow... what a great couple of days in Arizona. Tony and I are quite pleased to say the least as the crowds were about as hot as the temperature. 107 anyone? Thank you so much to Bonnie at Javalinas and our newfound friends in Southeast Tucson. We couldn't have asked for a better show and response. High five to Sandra, Matt and the team at Borders Books for the Phoenix gig. It sure was nice of everyone to come out and support us. Who would have thought... and to the 101 loop for being our friend. How we stumbled on Amsterdam in Phoenix, I'll never know. No wonder the guys were so good looking!

So we're back home and working hard for the Calypso Cafe dinner show right around the corner. Join us for a Jameson or two and PLEASE make reservations for a table or bar seat by the band if you are planning on attending.

Finally a Happy Birthday to all my Virgo babies... there are so many of you, and I'm very happy to have ALL of you in my life.

xo - Julie

Because one stupid move deserves another...

Okay, so there are some songs I can't stop playing. You should MySpace them and listen. ;-)

Gorillaz, Feel Good
Ringside, Tired of Being Sorry
The Fray, Cable Car Over My Head
Low Millions, Statue
Spin Doctors, (yeah yeah I know, the Spin Doctors)
Can't Kick the Habit

I have to go to bed now, it's very late or very early...

Because every now and then a long shot comes in...

Happy Birthday Uncle Paul! Thanks so much to P & B for letting me and Loki set-up and play Saturday. It was a nice night for a House Concert. Couldn't help but feel like it was a scene out of Notting Hill with all the lights in the houses lit up and happy hand-holding couples coming down the hill. YUCK!

Just kidding. I'm not that jaded or cynical although I suspect there might a lad or two that beg to differ. C'mon now... I'm just being my little smartass self... and isn't that what you like about me anyways?

Anyone want to come to Arizona and hang out with me, Tony and S_ _ thead? As if things aren't hot enough here...

Toxically yours... j mack

8/5/05
It's amazing what you notice when you're forced to slow down.

Hey kiddo's... my apologies for any breakdown in communication. Things got turned a little upside down this week as a result of an unexpected visit to the hospital to say good-bye to mr.appendix. thank God for the amazing work man has done with painkillers and the team at Scripps in Encinitas. With an extra cherry on top for the OR doc that was kind enough to stop what he was doing to wipe a tear away during a scarey moment and nurse Ross for making sure my pendent remain close by. But it's Friday and like a bat out of hell, life is back to normal, somewhat.

Moving on, some inquiring minds have been wanting to know... what would it take to win the heart of this spirited child... and to that I say three things:

a. don't cheat.
b. there is no such thing as too much romance.
c. the way to my heart is through my son. get past him, and you're more then halfway there.

Hold out for true love. Anything less is a compromise.
